Android device updates: AT&T Galaxy S5 Active hops up to Android 5.1.1

13.11.2015
The Galaxy S5 Active isn’t the flashiest of flagships, but there’s good news if you have the AT&T model. The device is jumping to Android 5.1.1, which puts it just one step shy of Marshmallow.

It was another slow week of updates. Hopefully that’s due to all the update elves working furiously to implement Marshmallow.

Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.

Galaxy S5 Active: No, Marshmallow isn’t ready. But there are important improvements in the move from Android 5.0 to 5.1.1, so it’s definitely worth grabbing the update. AT&T says you’ll also get security updates, a fix for Ultra Power Saver Mode, and Android for Work.

Moto X Style: Motorola product manager David Schuster took to his Google+ page to announce that the 2015 Moto X Style and 2014 Moto X are beginning a test run of Marshmallow. The rollout is only in Brazil and India for now, but this bodes well for the Moto X Pure Edition, which is the U.S. variant of the Style, and last year’s Moto X. Such international rollouts are common practice, so if all settles in good then your Moto X may be seeing Marshmallow in the near future.
