The latest build of Android N brings some nice improvements, while the Shield Tablet K1 update brings several fixes that should improve the gaming experience and other use cases.
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.
Shield Tablet K1: A new OTA is on the way, and it brings compatibility with Android Marshmallow’s professional audio requirements, improved control of nav button position, Wi-Fi fixes, and the June security patch. You can get the full changelog from Nvidia.
Android N: Developer Preview 4 is on its way to your compatible device. Along with a ton of bug fixes, Google has removed support for pressure-sensitive screens. This means some type of answer to Apple’s 3D Touch is going to get pushed down the road. However, developers can now submit their N-compatible apps to the Play Store, which means they’ll be ready for when N becomes official. We have a compilation of all the key changes to past versions if you’d like a refresher.
