AT&T says that the capability, which has been available on the iPhone since late last year, will be coming to more Android devices soon. Given that the G4 is last year’s model from LG, it’s a rather peculiar choice considering the more popular phones out there like the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, or the newer LG G5.
You’re eligible for Wi-Fi calling on your G4 if you have a postpaid wireless account set up for HD Voice. The feature lets you make and receive calls and texts over Wi-Fi to any U.S. number, even if you’re overseas.
The impact on you: Having used this with an iPhone I’ve found you get very clear calling and are less likely to miss calls if your house is a cellular dead zone, as the phone will pick them up over Wi-Fi. It’d sure be lovely if this actually comes to some current-generation flagships, but that’s going to require AT&T to work with lots of different partners.
