The free calls will last for four days and will be for post-paid customer calls to China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. It starts at 12am on February 19 and runs until 11.59pm on February 22. Vodafone chief marketing officer Loo Fun Chee said that the company recognised that the ringing in of the Chinese New Year meant people wanted the chance to truly connect, rather than just making a quick call. "Chinese New Year is a celebration of family. It's a very special time of year when people long to be close to their loved ones. We want to help our customers celebrate the festive season by making it easier for them to connect with their families," she said.
"By waiving the costs of international calls during Chinese New Year, customers will not have to think twice about the cost of phone calls to parents, siblings and the extended family."
Vodafone prepaid $30, $40, $50 Cap customers can also enjoy free calls to China, India, NZ, UK and USA during the Chinese New Year weekend period (February 21/22) as part of Vodafone's 'weekend freedom' trial.
