Pentaho 6.0, announced Tuesday at the Strata + Hadoop conference in New York, includes the first version of the Pentaho enterprise-class server and aims to help companies blend data of any type -- structured or unstructured, for example -- at any stage of the pipeline.
Scheduled for release in mid-October, Pentaho 6.0 offers new data services and delivery options to blend and virtualize datasets on the fly with appropriate governance for analytics at scale.
Users can blend all data types and virtualize blended datasets for faster, more flexible data access, Pentaho said. They can also tap inline analytic model editing to share user-created measures and metrics in a collaborative manner.
Enhanced "push down optimization," meanwhile, ensures that data transformations are completed by the most efficient processing resource available.
New data lineage capabilities help users understand data origin, and updates to Spring Security provide authentication, authorization and other security features for enterprise applications.
Also included is deeper integration with the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for better enterprise visibility, along with improved data-services caching and support for the Open Service Gateway Initiative (OSGi) specification.
