Registration opens for Google I/O, but not for long

18.03.2015
Registration is now open for Google I/O, the company's annual developer conference, and it will rap up Thursday evening.

The conference -- which generally focuses on Android, Chrome, search and some of Google's more far-reaching research projects - is scheduled for May 28-29 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Drawing thousands of developers from around the globe, Google I/O is focused on helping people build mobile, web and enterprise applications.

Registration opened yesterday and will remain open until Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.

General admission tickets for the event are $900 each, but $300 for full-time students, professors, faculty and staff at academic institutions.

Registering doesn't mean you automatically will be able to attend the conference. Google noted on its website that it will randomly select people from all of the qualified applicants once the registration window is closed. Those chosen to attend will be notified by email.

Last year, Google I/O focused on Android, wearables like its smartwatches, and Google TV. However, there was a definite lack of focus on Google Glass, as well as on the bevy of robotics companies Google had just acquired.

Speculation about what the company will focus on this year has just begun.
