Snapchat's Discover feature gets magazine-style makeover

08.06.2016
A fresh Snapchat redesign makes is significantly easier for you to browse for videos and images from the increasing number of publishers that are competing for your attention.

In an update to both the iPhone and Android versions, you’ll see several changes designed to make browsing for news and other updates more pleasant. When you swipe over to the Discover tab, you’ll see magazine cover-style spreads for different media outlets.

Your subscriptions also get the new treatment, where previously all the media outlets were only identified by a small circle with the company logo.

When you first launch Snapchat you’ll also see subtle changes to the icons at the bottom for messages and swiping over to the Discover section. Instead of a number for how many stories you have, the icon will just be purple to indicate there’s new stuff to check out.

You’ll find the new updates in Google Play and the App Store.

The impact on you: Snapchat has exploded recently as more people look for a new way to find “snackable” content without all the annoyances that come from other social networks. With Snapchat you don’t have to deal with angry @ mentions or off-topic comments. But the interface was pretty terrible, and this update is a good move in the right direction.
