Android device updates: Google pushes out first Android N patch
There’s already a fresh build of the developer preview that fixes some performance issues, of which there are plenty. Besides that, it was a pretty slow week of updates, though there should be plenty of new phones out there running Marshmallow now that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are on sale.
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.
Android N: If you’re running the Android N preview, you should see an over-the-air update for the Nexus 6P and 5X (NPC56W) and the Nexus 9 (NPC56X). The newest builds are also on the Android Developers site. If you’ve yet to try and beta and want to give it a go, you can flash the new image to your eligible phone.
There isn’t any specific changelog, so this is likely bug fixes and tweaks. Google is issuing five major updates before the final release, but it now looks like there will be some iterative improvements in-between.
OnePlus Two: A soak test is underway for Android 6.0, which comes baked in as part of the company’s Oxygen OS. Usually a soak test is the final step before a general release, so if you have one of these phones, which we rather liked in our OnePlus Two review, the Marshmallow treat should come your way in the near future.
