Cisco opens Internet of Everything innovation centre at Hackney Community College

19.02.2015
Cisco is housing an Internet of Everything innovation centre at north-east London's Hackney Community College, just up the the road from Tech City.

The Cisco Create IoE centre will bring together startups, industry experts, developers and researchers to develop technology solutions. The innovation centre aims to provide an open ecosystem to create "ground-breaking" solutions across areas such as energy, transport, healthcare and education, Cisco said.

Phil Smith, chief executive of Cisco UK & Ireland, said: "Digitisation poses a tremendous opportunity for the UK - from connecting transport networks, to the prospect that it holds for efficiency in our healthcare system. The connectivity of people, processes, data and things has the potential to transform industries."

The new facility in Hackney will include "/Dev/Innovate", an on-premise innovation pod to enable further technical experimentation, with access to demonstrations and early releases from Cisco's portfolio of products and services.

Cisco Internet of Everything innovation centres are also located in Barcelona, Berlin, Rio de Janeiro, Songdo, Tokyo and Toronto.

Last year, prime minister David Cameron announced a £45 million commitment to develop technologies based on the Internet of Things (IoT). And recently, communications regulator Ofcom said it would be looking to introduce an appropriate regulatory framework to aid the development of a UK IoT market.
