LG just cancelled its Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE smartwatch rollout
19.11.2015
We knew something was amiss. We’ve been testing the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition for the last week, and its performance has been unreliable. Now, citing a “hardware issue,” LG is halting sales of the watch, which launched via AT&T last week, and was primed to go sale via Verizon tomorrow.
LG explains:
The botched rollout in an ignominious development for the first Android Wear watch to feature a SIM card for voice calls and data service directly on the watch. LG hasn’t yet told us what the hardware problem is, but during testing I’ve found problems with WiFi and LTE performance. In short: Google Now voice commands don’t work reliably unless the Urbane 2nd Edition LTE is tethered to my phone.
You can read all about my problems with the watch here.
I’ll update this story if and when LG sheds more light on the issue. 9to5Google reports AT&T is offering refunds and exchanges for the Urbane 2nd Edition LTE. So there’s that.
