Ministry of Defence selects CGI to create national security vetting system
CGI, which has provided a vetting system to the MoD since 2008, will now develop a nationwide system for most government departments and contractors that are required to vet staff for security clearance.
The NSVS platform replaces a number of disparate systems and manual process, allowing applicants and case workers to access information remotely and on different devices. It will be able to handle more than 200,000 vetting requests each year, performing checks on applicants including financial status, address verification and criminal record checks. NSVS is built on Cereberus software, using an Oracle database.
The system will also use CGI's recently launched UK Security Operations Centre (SOC) to monitor for cybersecurity threats against the NSVS in real-time, with the NSVS system hosted in the service provider's ISO/IES 27001 certified facilities in the UK.
A tender notice last year estimated the value of the project to be between £10million an £20 million. The contract is for four years, with an option to extend.
