Nexus 5 leak reveals fingerprint reader, similar design elements to previous model
An image posted to a Nexus enthusiast community on Google+ reveals a device that looks like it could be a new Nexus 5. It has a fingerprint sensor on the back, which is something that Motorola was going to put in the Nexus 6 until Apple bought the company that was going to supply the sensor.
While the Nexus logo and the LG sticker look legit, the styling of the device certainly isn’t very appealing. The previous Nexus 5 did come with options of white, black, and red, so this could be just one of the choices. Yet the protruding camera is certainly large and would make it awkward to place the phone on your desk.
Other leaks tend to follow a first, so we may see more soon. This version of the phone looks unfinished—Google is expected to reveal its device plans this fall, in time for the release of Android M.
The story behind the story: The rumor mill has been pretty consistent about two Nexus devices: A 5.7-inch Nexus 6 made by Huawei and a 5.2-inch Nexus 5 from LG. It’s a good strategy, as the only pure Google device you can get right now is the Nexus 6, which most will find too large. But this year Nexus phones will compete against a very good, budget-friendly Moto G and a Moto X that may finally have a good camera.
