Verizon cut prices on most data plans, but raises costs for heavy data users
By offering more data with each of the lower-tier plans Verizon is essentially building in a $10 discount from its previous rates. The company is also adding a new 6GB plan for $70 a month and an 8GB plan for $85. The obscenely data hungry are also getting some love with new 12GB, 14GB, and 16GB plans available priced at $110, $120, and $130 per month respectively.
The impact on you at home: While Verizon is adding some new plans and deals, the company is also taking some away. During the holidays, Verizon was offering 10GB at $80 per month, which will now set you back $100. A 15GB option for $100 is also gone, in favor of the higher-priced 12GB, 14GB and 16GB options.
On the Edge
Along with the price cuts, Verizon is also offering some deals to More subscribers on the Verizon Edge program--the carrier's yearly device upgrade plan. Verizon says that for a limited time, subscribers on a 6GB or higher More data plan can add Edge for $15 per month--after a $25 access discount per line.
As the largest carrier in the U.S., Verizon doesn't want to play T-Mobile's game of wild price cuts, but it obviously feels the need to react in some way. With T-Mobile, Sprint, and even AT&T chasing after customers with new deals every few months it was only a matter of time before Verizon would get serious about it too.
