Woman who unwittingly recycled an Apple I has $100k coming her way
Back in April, a woman handed off several boxes filled with old electronics gear at the Clean Bay Area recycling facility in Milpitas, CA. It's nothing out of the ordinary, except for the fact that one of those boxes contained a rare Apple I, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
The computer dates back to 1976, the Mercury News notes, and it's one of only 200 made, making it one of the ultimate tech industry collector's items.
Clean Bay Area sold the tossed-out Apple I to a private collector for $200,000, but the company's policy is to give half the proceeds from such a sale back to the donor. The only problem is that Clean Bay Area doesn't know who the Apple I donor is--she didn't leave a name or request a receipt for income tax purposes.
According to the Mercury News, the woman dropped off her Apple I on a Friday in April, and was seen driving an SUV.
