Majestic Wine eyes online sales growth with revamped ecommerce platform
Majestic, which has over 200 wine warehouses throughout the UK and yearly sales of £274 million, has seen online transactions increase in recent years. Mobile and web transactions now account for 11.1 percent of total retail revenues, according to the company's recent financial results, after growing 14.7 percent in 12 months.
In July 2013 the wine retailer relaunched its website supported by a new ecommerce system from Intershop, with the aim of improving its online services. The new web and mobile sites offered improved features and functionality such as 'click and collect' and display of stock availability, benefitting customers and the company's own operational efficiency.
In order to support growth in online services, and pave the way for mobile and social media integration, the wine retailer chose to launch the ecommerce platform on infrastructure provided by cloud hosting provider Carrenza, which will also provide supporting management services to Majestic.
"Our main concern in selecting a hosting partner was one of scalability," said Richard Weaver, eccommerce director at Majestic Wine. "We were looking for an infrastructure solution that would allow us to scale both in the short term for our peak sales period at Christmas, and in the long term as our customers increasingly experience Majestic through our online channels."
Weaver added: "We opted for Carrenza because of their proven track record in delivering some of Europe's busiest ecommerce environments, often having to cope with seasonal peaks and varying demand. This gives us the peace of mind that comes from having a reliable ecommerce infrastructure that we can scale as and when we need it."
