Microsoft acquires application management company, BlueStripe

11.06.2015
Microsoft has completed its acquisition of application management technology company, BlueStripe Software.

BlueStripe's solution helps map, monitor and troubleshoot distributed applications across heterogeneous operating systems and multiple datacentre and Cloud environments. BlueStripe is commonly used today by customers to extend the value of Microsoft System Centre by adding application-aware infrastructure performance monitoring.

The company mentioned, in a statement, that the acquisition was a result of more businesses turning to applications to drive innovation and gain competitive advantage, as well as to support the explosion of applications, agile Cloud development environments and exponential growth of componentised architectures and micro-services.

"Applications and data are being spread across on-premises datacentres and public, private and hosted Clouds as a result. While IT teams may not operate all of the infrastructure where the applications run, they still require visibility and the ability to manage these applications in order to support and protect the business," Microsoft enterprise Cloud general manager, Mike Neil, said.

As a result of the acquisition, Microsoft aims to make BlueStripe's solution an integral part of Microsoft's management products and services, like its System Center and Operations Management Suite (OMS) solutions.

While the team works on these updates, it will discontinue selling the BlueStripe solutions in the short-term, but will continue to support existing BlueStripe customers during this time.

"Microsoft is committed to providing leading hybrid Cloud solutions and support for our customers. Today's acquisition furthers that promise, giving IT even more hybrid Cloud flexibility to focus on what matters most -- rapidly delivering business value to drive innovation."

The general availability of Azure Rights Management Service Departmental Templates that allow administrators to protect content by designating a subset of users to be able to see and select a template from applications, rather than all users in the organisation.

The availability of Azure Premium Storage in East Australia: With Premium Storage, more customers will be able to lift-and-shift demanding enterprise applications to the Cloud.

The general availability of Power BI Content Packs: Microsoft is adding content packs for appFigures and Mailchimp. Subscribers to one of these two supported services will be able to quickly connect to their accounts from Power BI and see their data through live dashboards and interactive reports that have been pre-built for them.
