Only 1 in 5 organisations securely manage customer identities: RSA, Capgemini

29.02.2016
Only 1 in 5 organisations are adequately set up to securely manage customer identities and access management security, according to a recent survey.

Conducted by Capgemini and RSA, the survey polled more than 800 C-level global executives.

The companies said as organisations seek to capitalise on digital opportunities such as hosting new services online, often they under-invest in cybersecurity measures like governing user access.

Results showed 62 per cent of respondents claiming it is critical for their organisations to enable or extend access for users to digital services securely, yet only 26 per cent have the technology in place to do so.

Additionally, 84 per cent of respondents acknowledged the need to offer adaptive authentication methods and IDs, revealing that organisations do recognise the need to improve the user experience.

Capgemini Group global cybersecurity chief operating officer, Mike Turner, said the ownership of identities is moving away from the organisation to more flexible and secure services maintained by the user, addressing access management needs.

“It is clear that the days of logging into a company’s system with a username and password specific to that organisation are numbered. Users aspire to login from anywhere in a variety of ways, including with social media profiles and existing email accounts.”

RSA vice president of identity products, Jim Ducharme, said as organisations extend to the Cloud they must ensure they have solutions in place that address the risk and threats associated with assuming user identities.

"These solutions must understand who is accessing what, manage that access effectively, and control access across the various Cloud services. These elements are essential to giving the organisation the assurance that users are who they say they are in a Cloud environment," he said.
