WolframAlpha co-creator to join TomTom as technology lead
Overmann is a well-known figure in the technology industry, particularly for his role in WolframAlpha, which powers natural language searches in Apple's Siri, and is run on the same language that has predicted the spread of Ebola and outwitted Hollywood actor Benedict Cumberbatch's impersonations.
The new role involves driving TomTom's technology roadmap, focusing on innovation. The telematics company will play an important part in the growing Internet of Things arena as cars become increasingly connected.
Overmann moves from Deutsche Telekom, where he headed up products and innovation.
A TomTom spokesperson said: "Peter is a proven innovator with broad technical experience including several patents in Internet of Things communication. I am confident he will help us elevate TomTom's future in technology innovation."
TomTom is known for its consumer GPS devices but operates a telematics unit and fleet management services unit.
It recently partnered with Volkswagen to develop driverless car technology.
