LG G Watch Urbane will go on sale in time for Father’s Day
LG was the first company to launch an Android Wear smartwatch. It was also the first company to release a smartwatch with a completely circular display. But the G Watch Urbane is its first try at making a smartwatch that is fashionable.
It represents a key step in the company’s wearable strategy, said Phillip Anderson, the head of public relations at LG Australia.
“I see the LG Watch Urbane as an important development in our strategy to deliver high quality wearable devices that are worn and viewed as stylish accessories, not just electronic gadgets.”
The third-gen smartwatch departs from its predecessors with a body forged from stainless steel and an interchangeable 22mm leather strap.
Hardware remains largely unchanged from its G Watch R predecessor. Its circular display uses a Plastic-OLED panel that spans 1.3-inches. A heart rate monitor is still featured for use when exercising and its IP67 certification grants it resistance to dust and water.
Inside the smartwatch is a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU from Qualcomm, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a 410 milliamp-hour battery.
The G Watch Urbane has a recommended retail price of $449 when it goes on sale 1 September. It will be offered in silver at launch and followed by a pink gold variant, which will “be confirmed at a later date”.
