Some Verizon customers unable to activate their Moto X Pure Edition
Several Reddit users took to Reddit with stories about Verizon employees unable to get their phones connected and others turning customers away because the device wasn’t an official, Verizon-branded smartphone.
Some of this may have been confusion on the part of Verizon employees, as the company told told DroidLife that the phone can be activated and used with one’s plan.
“Moto X Pure Edition is certified and supported for activation on Verizon’s network. We are working with Motorola to resolve the activation issue by Friday, Sept. 18,” the company said in a statement.
That’s just around the corner, so if you’re in this situation you may want to pester Verizon support so you can put that customized phone to use.
The story behind the story: The Moto X Pure Edition is sold directly from Motorola, unlocked for use on all four major U.S. carriers. If you’re using a GSM-based carrier like AT&T or T-Mobile, activating the phone is as simple as popping in a new SIM. However, it’s a bit more complicated on Verizon as it’s network is CDMA-based, though it’s made efforts to be friendlier to unlocked devices. Though there have been issues in the past, like when Nexus 6 users ran into problems.
