SpiderOak delivers new online backup and synchronization
24.04.2009
has released version 3.0 of their online backup and synchronization technology. The service is free for up to 2GB; it's priced for US$10 per month per 100GB increment, or $100 per year per 100GB increment.
SpiderOak enables you to backup data and synchronize files online. It supports Mac OS X, Windows and Linux platforms, and sports "zero-knowledge" data encryption -- you create your own password on your own computer and encrypt it locally, so no trace of that password is ever uploaded to SpiderOak's servers. This process makes it more secure, according to the company.
New preferences let you put a copy of all encrypted data in a location you specify; improves overall build speed for new files by a factor of five; improves de-duplication speeds by up to 50 times faster than before; adds new preferences for limiting bandwidth; adds a new "Status" section of the Status area, and more.
SpiderOak's Mac client is a Universal binary.
