The Moto X Force is the Droid Turbo 2 for the rest of the world
The company is rebranding its Verizon-only Droid Turbo 2 as the Moto X Force for international markets. To kickoff the marketing effort, Motorola Mobility put out a video with President Rick Osterloh dropping an iPhone and what looks like a Galaxy S6 onto the ground. They of course shatter, but the Moto X Force takes the punishment.
That’s because the Moto X Force has a five-layer display that Motorola promises will withstand drops and the daily grind of living with a smartphone. The device is headed to Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America in November.
The specs are identical to the Droid Turbo 2: a 5.4-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 21MP camera, and a 3,750 mAh battery with support for quick charging. Unfortunately, the device launches with Android Lollipop 5.1.
Why this matters: Motorola sells much of its smartphone portfolio overseas, so it’s not surprising to see the company push a device with its own unique hardware feature to international markets. The more robust build is an interesting take on smartphone construction, but you’ll have good reason to be concerned about future updates with Motorola’s shaky record.
