The T-Mobile Tuesdays #getthanked app gets tanked, depriving customers of their freebies
As of about 9:45 a.m. PT, the T-Mobile Tuesdays app failed to hand out coupon codes for the Domino’s pizza, Wendy’s Frosty, and Vudu video rental that Legere promised a day ago as part of T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 11 promotion. Some users, including PCWorld contributing writer Ed Oswald, reported that the app went right to a connection error page.
T-Mobile also promised a free share of stock as part of its #getthanked promotion, but there was no mention of the “Stock Up” promo on the app page, either.
T-Mobile blamed high customer demand for the app as the reason for the problems.
// Why this matters: Unfortunately, T-Mobile’s app didn’t fail gracefully. If it had simply failed to launch or thrown up an error page, customers would have likely understood that the app was under too much load. Instead, by loading but simply failing to provide customers with their expected free gifts, the app generated a lot more angst than was necessary.
“I’m not announcing any bullshit loyalty schemes,” Legere said Monday. Unfortunately, that was probably the word that came to mind when T-Mobile’s app failed to deliver. //
