Vodafone responds to increasing smartphone Internet use
There is no limit on national phone calls and texts messaging, while calls to ten international countries are unlimited.
Also bundled with the plan is a 12-month subscription to Spotify Premium, Stan, The Age or the SMH; however, use of these services will come out of the plan's data allowance.
The $130 Red plan is a response to the increase in smartphone Internet use. Mobile data usage has almost doubled year-on-year, according to research from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Vodafone claims it has 2.9 million people using its 4G mobile network. Offering a plan with a high allowance will make it possible for its customers to appreciate the material benefits of a 4G network, said Stephen Smyth, the general manager of products at Vodafone.
"20GB of data gives customers the freedom to watch a movie or two every week, stream music for several hours each day or enjoy live gaming on the go.”
Customers could use their smartphones more and their home broadband less, added Smyth.
The plan is “more than enough for the average Australian family's smartphone usage, providing an affordable solution for households looking to cut down on their mobile phone and Internet bills.”
Not every smartphone will be free as some will require a handset instalment. More information will be available when Vodafone begins offering the $130 Red plan on Wednesday, 9 September.
