Android device updates: Google posts Marshmallow factory images for Nexus 6P and 5X
This update was one of the few highlights in a rather slow week of updates in Android Land. Of course, if Android really does swallow up Chrome, we can’t wait to add a whole list of Android-powered PCs to this weekly compilation.
Each week, we compile all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, Android Wear smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and gaping security holes.
Nexus 6P: Google recently posted the factory images for its top-of-the-line device. The downloads are listed for two different builds: MDA89D and MDB08K.
Nexus 5X: Same plan here for Google’s other new flagship. In this case, there are three different versions: MDA89E, MDA89F, and MDB08I.
Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact: Sony is sending out the first over-the-air update for the company’s beta test of Marshmallow. The new build adds in a “double tap to wake” function, MIDI support through USB, updates to the Sony keyboard, and a higher bitrate for audio.
Wondering when your phone will get Android’s latest treat We have a running list that we update whenever we hear about a phone manufacturer or carrier’s Marshmallow plans. Be sure to check back early and often.
