Huawei Network Congress 2015: Huawei launches new operating system, LiteOS, for the Internet of Things
He was speaking at one of the keynote sessions at the Huawei Network Congress 2015 in Beijing, China.
"Huawei believes that standardising ICT infrastructure will foster the development of Internet applications, including IoT applications. To address this, Huawei is launching our IoT OS, LiteOS," he said.
Xu said LiteOS is the world's most lightweight IoT OS. It is small in size at 10KB and supports zero configuration, auto-discovery, and auto-networking. This open source platform can be widely applied to different areas including smart homes, wearable, connected vehicles and other industries.
In addition, Xu mentioned that the LiteOS helps to simplify the development of smart hardware to enhance IoT connectivity. It was also announced that LiteOS will be opened to all developers, which enables them to quickly develop their own IoT products.
"This will facilitate the development of the whole eco-system, which we believe can also drive the network equipment end for Huawei. The market for IoT might be unclear now, but there will be more clarity around it in the coming years and LiteOS would help substantiate that."
Huawei Technologies switch and enterprise communication product line president, Swift Liu, who also spoke at the keynote, mentioned that LiteOS was created as the company predicts "a total of 100 billion connections will be generated globally and two million new sensors will be deployed every hour by 2025".

However, the networks today cannot provide the connectivity to support this.
He also attributed a recent finding from Gartner, which showed the IoT smart industry is worth $US1.9 trillion.
"As such, in addition to LiteOS, Huawei is also unveiling the Agile IoT gateway and Agile Controller solutions at this event. These three components will form Huawei's Agile Network 3.0 Architecture," he said.

The gateway product line-up includes an industrial router, switch, and ICT-converged gateway. It will be compatible with multiple systems and include a variety of protocols.
As for the Agile Controller, it will aid the Agile IoT gateway solutions, providing users with convergent and open features as well as enabling them with people to people, people to machine, and machine to machine communications options.
Apart from the Agile IoT Solution, Huawei also released a number of new products and technologies in the areas of datacentres, enterprise wireless campus, Wide Area Network (WAN) and network security.
Some of these products include the 100T datacentre switches, the Wi-Fi and LTE Integration Access Agile Mobile Solution, high throughput routers with enhanced transmission efficiency, and the "Device, Network, Cloud" end-to-end security solution.
