Gamefly Streaming launches on Samsung Smart TVs

20.08.2015
Last June I took a look at Gamefly's new streaming service. My experience was mixed; as a 'core gamer' (Do we still call ourselves that) I'm quite particular about the performance of my games and Gamefly's streaming wasn't quite up to snuff for me. To be fair, I've yet to meet a streaming service that I'm totally content with.

But I'm not the target demographic; game streaming services are really intended for casual gamers who aren't willing to spend $300-$400 on a gaming console. Gamefly Streaming's main problem was reaching its intended audience given that it was only available on the Amazon Fire TV, at least in the United States.

This week Gamefly addressed this issue, announcing that Gamefly Streaming is now available on Samsung Smart TVs in the US and Canada as well as 17 other countries (some of which already had the service). Here's the full list: US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and Israel.

Assuming you have a supported TV (and they say "most" Samsung Smart TVs from 2014 & 2015 are supported) all you do it connect a controller and start gaming. They recommend using a wired Xbox 360 controller, a Logitech F310 (wired), or a Logitech F710 (wireless via a USB dongle). The Logitech F310 costs about $19 at Amazon; that's a pretty reasonable entry fee, assuming you already have the TV.

Gamefly Streaming itself starts at $7-$10/month depending on which bundle you subscribe to.
