FuelBand buyers eligible for $25 gift cards in Nike, Apple settlement
As part of the settlement, Nike is offering a $15 cash payment or $25 gift card to eligible FuelBand buyers who submit a claim here. You can also exclude yourself from the settlement if you plan to challenge its terms in court or sue Nike or Apple down the line. If you don't file a claim or exclude yourself from the settlement, you won't be eligible for cash or a gift card and you won't be able to sue.
Nike and Apple didn't admit to any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
The story behind the story: Apple was a co-defendant in the case, but Nike will cover the costs of settling the suit. Cupertino was named in the suit because it touted the fitness-tracking capabilities of the FuelBand and sold the wristband in its stores. Apple and Nike have had a close business relationship for years, partnering in 2006 to produce sports accessories for the iPod. When Nike discontinued production of the FuelBand in April 2014, two of its engineers joined Apple to work on the Apple Watch's health-tracking functions. Apple CEO Tim Cook also spoke highly of the FuelBand before the Apple Watch was released.
