Google pushes out January security updates for Nexus devices
All of the patches are based on Android 6.0.1. The Nexus 6P and 5X receive MMB29P, the Nexus 5, 6, and 9 will get MMB29S, while the Nexus Player is slated for MMB29T. If you want to install them yourself and would like some guidance, check out our guide for how to install factory images on your device.
Other phones that have promised to keep up with Google's monthly security patches should receive these fixes in the coming weeks.
The story behind the story: Google pledged to start doing monthly security patches after the Stagefright vulnerability exposed nearly all Android devices to a nasty bug. So far the company has stuck to the pledge, which means you’re probably far less likely to encounter any type of security issues if you’re running one of Google’s stock Android devices. Other companies like Motorola, Samsung, and LG have promised to follow suit.
