Watch out! Gmail's autocomplete is suggesting the wrong email addresses
23.02.2015
Take a second to check that "Send To" field before you fire off an email complaining to a coworker about your idiot boss today, folks. Gmail's apparently suffering from a bug that's borked its autocomplete suggestions, so it might not be your most-used contact that pops up first when you start typing.
A flood of people--including people who regularly handle sensitive materials, like journalists and venture capitalists--have taken to Twitter to complain about both sending emails to the wrong person and receiving emails meant for others. The bug doesn't appear to be universal, however; neither myself nor any of my PCWorld pals are seeing the issue. But it's widespread enough that the official Gmail account tweeted that the company is aware of the issue and working on a fix.
In the meantime, take it slow and check your recipient twice. You wouldn't want an email for your boyfriend landing in your boss' inbox, after all.
